Portrait 2.0.2 und 2.0.3 – Nadine und Sylvi

Liebe Leserinnen, liebe Leser,

Meine nächsten zwei Kandidatinnen für das Projekt portraits_2null stehen fest: Nadine und Sylvi.

Nadine ist eine außerordentlich kreative Frau, die neben Fotos und Designs auch Tools für das Web 2.0 kreiert. Ihr Blog ist vor allem eine Website, auf der Ihr Kostproben ihres Schaffens betrachten könnt. Ihr seht hier ein kleines Portrait von ihr auf einer Holzpostkarte, das ich 2009 für die Sammlung Hussong anfertigte.

Sylvi hat einen Blog, der sich Vintage-Lifestyle nennt. Der Name ist Programm. Sylvi stellt Produkte im Retro-Look vor, die vor allem Fans der 70er begeistern dürften. Das Portrait, dass ich von ihr machen werde, soll ein postmodernes Madonnenbild werden. Ob es mir wohl gelingen wird?

For the portraits_2null project the next two models are Nadine and Sylvi.

Nadine is an extraordinary creative person. Beside photographs and designs she creates tools for the web 2.0. Her blog is also her website and you can find many samples of her artworks there. What you see here is a portrait of her on a wooden postcard which I created for the Hussong collection in 2009.

Sylvi´s blog is called Vintage-Lifestyle and the title is also her concept. She presents us many retro-style products especially for the Seventies fan base. The portrait of her will be a kind of post-modern madonna. Will I succeed?

Mein Liebling / Die Sammlung Hussong

Liebe Leserinnen, liebe Leser,

letztes Wochenende wurden zwei Ausstellungen eröffnet, auf denen Bilder von mir gezeigt werden.

Am Freitag startete die Ausstellung „Mein Liebling“ im Kunstverein 68elf in Köln. Die Ausstellung ist eine Hommage an das Wallraff-Richartz-Museum, welches offizieller Kooperationspartner der Ausstellung ist. Mein Bild auf der Ausstellung ist das Portrait 2.0.1, welches ich vor kurzem fertig stellte.

Last weekend two exhibitions were opened showing some of my artworks.

On Friday the exhibition called “Mein Liebling” (my favourite) was opened at the 68elf art association. The exhibition is a homage to the Wallraff-Richartz-Museum in cologne. The museum patronizes the project officially. The Portrait 2.0.1 that I finished recently is shown there.

Am Sonntag wurde im Stadtmuseum Brakel eine Ausstellung eröffnet, die 125 Exponate der Sammlung Hussong zeigt. Heiner Hussong und sein Sohn Frank sammeln seit 1988 Holzpostkarten, die von Künstlern gestaltet sind. In der Sammlung gibt es unter anderem Arbeiten von Günther Uecker, Christo, John Cage, John Bock und Jonathan Meese. Die Sammlung ist ein außergewöhnlicher Beitrag zur Mail Art und umfasst mittlerweile ca. 600 Werke. Anlässlich der Eröffnung malte ich ein Portrait des Boxers Muhammad Ali, das ihn in jungen Jahren zeigt.

On Sunday the Stadtmuseum Brakel opened an exhibition showing 125 exhibits from the Hussong collection. Heiner Hussong and his son Frank are collecting wooden postcards designed by artists since 1988. At their collection you can see artworks created by Günther Uecker, Christo, John Cage, John Bock or Jonathan Meese e.g. The Hussong collection is an extraordinary piece of mail art and includes around 600 artworks. On the occasion of the opening I painted a small portrait showing the young Muhammad Ali.

C.A.R. - Contemporary Art Ruhr

Liebe Leserinnen, liebe Leser,

letztes Wochenende wurden ein paar meiner Portraits auf der C.A.R. (Contemporary Art Ruhr) ausgestellt. Rolf Struwe, ein Kunstsammler und guter Freund, gründete 2010 die Galerie Artishocke, mit der er sich auf der Messe präsentierte. Einer der dort ausgestellten Künstler war ich. Die C.A.R. ist eine sehr innovative und junge Kunstmesse, die auf der Zeche Zollverein in Essen stattfindet.

An diesem Wochenende bin ich u.a. auf der Ausstellung „Mein Liebling“ im Kunstverein 68elf ausgestellt. Die Ausstellung ist eine Hommage an das Wallraff-Richartz-Museum in Köln. Das Museum ist offizieller Kooperationspartner der Ausstellung.

He founded the Artishocke Gallery in 2010 with which he took part at the fair. And one of the exhibited artists were Me. Portrait 2.0.1 – Minnja

Liebe Leserinnen, liebe Leser,

es ist nun endlich soweit: Das Portrait 2.0.1 ist vollendet. Es hat eine lange Zeit gebraucht und ich habe es mehrfach überarbeitet. Zwischenzeitlich wusste ich nicht, ob es nur ein Prototyp wird. Ich habe einen Stilbruch vollzogen und bin damit ein Wagnis eingegangen. Doch ich hatte Lust, mich noch einmal neu zu erfinden.

Minnja ist skeptisch über dieses Bild. Ich persönlich halte es für gelungen. Was meint Ihr?

The portrait 2.0.1 is complete. It took a very long time and I did many revisions. From time to time it seemed to become a prototype. This painting is a change in style. That’s tricky. But it was time for a new beginning.

Minnja is very sceptical about this portrait but I think it´s felicitous. What do you think?

ME BY BODARD

Liebe Leserinnen, liebe Leser,

vielleicht erinnert Ihr Euch noch an das Posting „YOU BY ME“, in welchem ich den brillanten Karikaturisten Bodard portraitiert habe. Es ist immer ein interessantes Abenteuer, wenn zwei Künstler sich gegenseitig portraitieren. Und wenn ich einen wirklich guten Künstler wie Bodard vor mir habe, dann fordert es mich heraus, besonders gut zu sein.

Den ersten Schuss hatte ich. Jetzt hat Bodard zurück geschossen. Voilà!

Perhaps you will remember the posting “YOU BY ME“ where I drew a portrait of the brilliant caricaturist Bodard. When two artists portray each other it’s always a great adventure. And when the other artist is as good as Bodard, it is a challenge for me to do it very well.

The first shot was mine. And now Bodard shot back! Voilà!

Boxerportraits in Privatsammlung aufgenommen

Liebe Leserinnen. Liebe Leser,

sorry, aber dies ist natürlich nicht das Portrait 2.0.1. Das Bild ist vollständig aber nicht fertig. Als Pilotbild hat es die Aufgabe, den Stil des Projektes vorzugeben und es sind noch letzte Stilfragen zu klären, bzw. der richtige Ton ist zu treffen. Als erstes Bild einer neuen Serie kommt ihm eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Das macht das Vorhaben sehr schwierig. Deshalb möchte ich den aktuellen Stand des Bildes nicht veröffentlichen. Ich hoffe auf Euer Verständnis und danke Euch für Eure Geduld!

Dennoch gibt es gute Neuigkeiten: Drei großformatige Boxerportraits (Max Schmeling, die Klitschko-Brüder) gehen in die Privatsammlung des Martin Stolz über und finden dort ein angemessenes Zuhause. Erstmals ausgestellt habe ich sie 2006 im Rahmen der großen Max-Schmeling-Ausstellung im Deutschen Sport & Olympia Museum. Damals ging der komplette Nachlass der Boxlegende in den Besitz des Museums über. Entgegen meines Prinzips, unprominente Personen in Öl zu verewigen, reizte mich die Aufgabe, die physische und psychische Stärke dieser Erfolgsboxer auf die Leinwand zu bannen. Durch das monumentale Format (2m x 2m) bekommt die Kraft der Darstellung eine besondere Dimension.

Wer das Bild von Max Schmeling im Deutschen Sport & Olympiamuseum besichtigen möchte, darf sich freuen: In der Dauerausstellung hängt eine Reproduktion des Bildes auf Leinwand in Originalgröße.

Sorry, but this is not the portrait 2.0.1. It is complete but not finished. As a pilot picture it defines the style of the whole serial. Some questions about the tonality still have to be resolved. Those decisions are very difficult because the first picture has a special importance for the new project. Therefore I will not publish it yet. Thanks for your patience!

Nevertheless I’ve got some good news: Three large sized boxer portraits (Max Schmeling, the Klitschko brothers) are transferred to the collection of Martin Stolz. First I showed them at the Max Schmeling exhibition at the Deutsches Sport & Olympia Museum in 2006. At that time the complete estate of Max Schmeling was transferred to the museum. Contrary to my principles of painting unknown people, I wanted to picture the physical and psychological strength of those successful boxers. The monumental size of  2 x 2 meters raises the painting to a powerful dimension.

At the moment you can visit the portrait of Max Schmeling at the Deutsches Sport & Olympiamuseum. The museum is showing a reproduction on canvas in original size at the permanent exhibition.

Retrospektiv X – David und Goliath

Liebe Leserinnen, Liebe Leser,

dies ist das letzte Posting vor der Veröffentlichung des Portraits 2.0.1. Es zeigt den schmächtigen David, der dem übermächtigen Krieger Goliath mit dessen eigenen Schwert den Kopf  abgeschlagen hat, nachdem er ihn mit einer Steinschleuder besiegte. Es ist eine Hommage an den Maler Johannes Grützke, der mit seiner grotesken, gestischen Malerei gern auch die Historienmalerei aufs Korn nimmt. Das Bild stammt aus dem Jahr 1997, als ich gerade frisch mit der Ölmalerei begann.

This is the last posting before publishing the portrait 2.0.1. It shows the lanky David who beheaded the superior warrior Goliath with his own sword after overwhelming him with a slingshot. This is a homage to the painter Johannes Grützke who likes to satirize historical paintings with his artworks. The picture that you see here is from 1997 when I started painting in oil.
